Pulled off all the parts of my Miata that rusted loose this winter. Note that all these came off without tools. #Saltlyfe

Underbody heat shield, and a muffler/catalyst headshield? Im not sure i’d want to leave the underbody one off, but they’re also torn to shreds and rusted on mine :/

Heat shield around a section of the tailpipe and associated clamps, and half of the catalytic converter heat shield...I’m not sure where the other half went :/
Still have underbody shields in those areas though.

Salinate and add blightedness.

I am no expert, but mine fell off as well. I’ve been driving around without them and so far seems to have no issues. I am sure they serve some purpose... but i have yet to discover this purpose and run to auto parts store to get replacements...

They weren’t between the gas tank and the exhaust were they?

Add lightness!

Nope. There are still underbody shields protecting the tank. Looks like they might hang on a few more years.

Before I removed my muffler there was a heat shield that was just sitting on top of it. It was no longer connected to anything, so sometimes it would shake and rattle, but I couldn’t pull it out because the muffler was in the way.

That’s pretty much how the one on top of the cat was situation. Had to loosen up part of the exhaust to pull it out. Made terrible noises when idling.
